| Meet Lola! Lola is our beautiful Yellow-Collared Macaw. Aren't her tail-feathers beautiful? At the present, Lola does not have a mate, but, while we are not actively looking for one, she is young and has lots of time, so one can never tell! She is as intelligent as she is beautiful and loves to talk and play. Just like our other pets, she is not for sale. She is only on her because we adore her and want to show her off! For more information on these birds, please scroll down. Thanks! | ||||||||||||||||

| The Yellow-Collared Macaw can be as long as 17 inches from the head to the tip of the tail. They are primarily green, with blue and red mixed in their tail, but they get their name from the beautiful stripe of yellow feathers that is around their nape, which actually increases in size and intensity as they mature! While they are belong to the group known as the Mini-Macaws, there is nothing small about their personality and they make up for their size with attitude, intelligence, loving nature and their playful antics!
If you are considering one of these birds, you must be sure that you get a cage large enough. It must be big enough that the bird can spread its wings without touching the sides and tall enough that it can roost without its tail fraying on the bars of the cage. You’ll also wan to be sure that there are lots of sturdy toys in their cage, as this bird is best kept stimulated and loves to play. In addition, these birds are known to be quite good at escaping, so be sure that the latches on the cage are very tight. These are excellent family pets, as they cost less than the larger Macaws (usually running from $700-$1000), do not require quite as much space and they are not quite as loud or high-maintenance. As long as this bird is kept healthy with a good, well-rounded diet (including just about everything except chocolate or avocados) and lots of attention and exercise (in and out of the cage), it is a pet that will last a VERY long time and will bring you hours of amusement and lots of love. |

| This breed of bird is not known to be a “screamer” and can actually learn to speak quite well. In fact, Yellow-Collared Amazons can combine a word with its meaning quite quickly, with training and patience. If you teach them the words that they need to use to get attention, this will help to reduce the occasional “screaming” even more! They can learn new behaviors at practically any age.
If you have other birds in the house, it is best to give your new pet about 30 days to acclimate to the new surroundings in a room alone. Then, as they have a tendency to be a bit aggressive, introduce them to the other birds slowly and one at a time. This will give you the opportunity to see how they react to one another. In addition, it is best that everyone in the home handle the bird regularly, to reduce the chance that it will become too attached to just one member and possibly aggressive towards the others. If they are not socialized enough at a young age, they have been known to become a bit possessive and protective, due to the strong bond. Yellow-Collared Macaws, just as any other bird, require a lot of care and attention and should never be an “impulse” purchase! If treated well and taken care of properly, this breed of bird can be a great friend to every member of the family and can offer an abundance of amusement with its devilish ways! |
